Subpoena Dispute Heads to Court
ATLANTA, Ga. - Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff, appeared in court on Monday to appeal an order requiring him to testify before a grand jury investigating efforts to overturn Georgia's 2020 election results.
Appeal Argues for Immunity
Meadows's attorney argued that he should be immune from testifying because of his former position in the Trump administration. However, Judge Eleanor L. Ross of the Northern District of Georgia had previously denied Meadows's motion to quash the subpoena, arguing that a sitting president does not have absolute immunity from criminal investigation.
Arguments Heard by Appeals Court
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will now consider Meadows's appeal. The court heard arguments from both sides on Monday and will issue a written ruling at a later date. Meadows's testimony could be crucial to the grand jury's investigation into the role of former President Donald Trump and his allies in the effort to overturn the election results.
