Rolfes Still Hopeful Of Extending Tahs Contract The Door Is Not Closed

Rolfes still hopeful of extending Tah's contract: "The door is not closed"

Leverkusen sporting director not giving up on defender

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has not given up hope of extending Jonathan Tah's contract beyond the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Germany international is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move away from the BayArena, with Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt among the clubs reportedly interested.

However, Rolfes is determined to keep Tah at Leverkusen and is hopeful that a new deal can be agreed.

"We are still in talks with him," Rolfes told reporters. "The door is not closed."

Tah has been a key player for Leverkusen since joining from Hamburger SV in 2015. He has made over 200 appearances for the club and has helped them win the DFB-Pokal in 2019.

The defender has also been capped 14 times by Germany and was part of the squad that won the Confederations Cup in 2017.

If Tah does leave Leverkusen, it will be a big blow to the club. He is one of their most experienced and reliable players and will be difficult to replace.

However, Rolfes is confident that Leverkusen can cope without Tah and is already looking at potential replacements.

"We have a good squad and we are always looking to improve," Rolfes said. "If Jonathan does leave, we will be ready."

Leverkusen are currently sixth in the Bundesliga and are still in contention for a place in the Champions League next season.

They face Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final on May 27 and will be hoping to end the season with a trophy.

Conclusion

Rolfes' comments suggest that Leverkusen are not giving up on Tah just yet. The sporting director is hopeful that a new deal can be agreed and that the defender will remain at the BayArena beyond the end of the season.

However, if Tah does leave, Leverkusen will be ready to move on. They have a good squad and are always looking to improve.
